On October 6th 2019, Marco Vazquez Jr. was shot and killed by Pico Rivera Sheriffs in front of his home.

Marco was suffering a mental health crisis when his family called for the The Psychiatric Emergency Team. Officers from the Los Angeles Sheriff Department arrived first on scene and initially concluded that Marco was not a danger to his family or himself, and left. Without the proper help provided to him, Marcos family continued to worry for his health and called again for the The Psychiatric Emergency Team. They were met with LASD officers again arriving on scene, but the second time with their guns drawn. The family tried to ensure officers that he was unarmed. Very shortly after their arrival, officers shot at Marco multiple times, also injuring Marcos brother. Marco died instantly in the driveway of his home, in front of his family. LASD claims that they shot at Marco because he was armed with a knife, but multiple witnesses on scene
